Meeting Notes January 2, 2018

The evening was a very moving ceremony for all those sworn in during the first council meeting of 2018.  The Swearing-In Ceremony was presided over by our new Willoughby Municipal Court Judge, Marisa Cornachio.  Newly elected Mayor Bob Fiala was sworn in for a four-year term.  That was followed by the oath of office for the four new Council members.  Finally the 3 returning Councilmen were sworn in for again another term in office.  Opening prayer was delivered by Sister Jacquelyn Gusdane, while the closing remarks and prayer were delivered by Pastor Mike Currier.

The first meeting of the New Year addressed several organizational items to set up City Hall, and Council for 2018.
COUNCIL ELECTIONS were addressed.  Robert Carr (President) and Robert Harrold (Vice President) were nominated and elected to fill those respective positions.  Also Alisa Novak was once again appointed to the position of Council Clerk.

o   Resolution honoring Jerome (Jerry) Ranally for 34 years of service as a Councilman to the City of Willoughby

o   Resolution honoring David Anderson for his 26 years of service to the City of Willoughby

This first Council Meeting was a “unique” meeting in that so much of City Government for Willoughby has changed.  There is still a strong feeling by Mayor Fiala that Willoughby is in “good hands” with those elected.  Everyone has a very "optimistic" outlook for the future of Willoughby.

SPECIAL NOTE:  In honor of Mayor Dave Anderson, serving the city as Mayor for the past 26 years, it was decided to name the "NEW WILLOUGHBY SENIOR CENTER" being constructed on the site of the Willoughby South High School Campus, in his honor.  It will be called the "David E. Anderson Senior Center".
